462/1907.

To The Honourable

Sir,

At present the Government Audit of my accounts is very much behind hand. This is not at all satisfactory for many reasons.

The chief one is that if any mistake should happen to creep in and an over-payment is made, it may be impossible to recover the amount owing to the length of time between payment and audit.

There is a great deal of duplication to be done under the present system, bills and agreements have to be copied for the information of the audit department and a great deal of unnecessary correspondence takes place.

All this would be avoided if the accounts were audited at my office by a special man who would also be empowered to inspect Divisional and Sub-Divisional Offices and the Store Department.

I have etc.,
